This story starts with 12-year-old Gracie Sparks, who is about to start high school, but she’s nervous because her best friends aren’t going to the same school as her.
We follow her messy start to Year 7 as she tries very hard to find new friends and get into the school band.
Gracie feels like a genuine person, dealing with mistakes that are relatable.
A standout moment was when she makes up a fake gig she’s performing at, just to impress the “Shiny Shorties.” This harmless attempt to sound cool quickly snowballs
into a tangle of lies she has to juggle. I loved this part because it perfectly captures Gracie’s personality, filled with humour and honesty.
I would describe this book as a little–sister version of ‘Dork Diaries’. Perfect if you love diary style writing and you’re aged around 7-11 years old. Definitely
recommend!
