Meet Skulduggery Pleasant: detective, magician, warrior. Oh yes, and dead. Derek Landy was born in 1973 in Lusk, Dublin, Ireland. He began his writing career as a screenwriter. Two of his screenplays have been made into films, one of which, Dead Bodies, won the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA). Landy is the author of the best-selling Skulduggery Pleasant series. His first book in the series, Scepter of the Ancients, was named a Best Book…

Skulduggery Pleasant is about a girl in Ireland named Stephanie Edgley. The book starts with the revelation that her uncle is dead. Attending the reading of his will is Stephanie’s family, and one stranger, named Skulduggery Pleasant. When there is a break-in at her late uncle’s house, Skulduggery Pleasant saves Stephanie with magic. Now Stephanie must try to save the world with her new friend, Skulduggery Pleasant.

This series is one of the funniest I have ever read. There is a huge amount of suspense, the plot is extremely well built, and every chapter leaves you wanting more. This is the first in a 14-book series, so there is no reason to feel disheartened after finishing. The series gets better with each book. If you like comedy, action, mystery, and fantasy, then pick up Skulduggery Pleasant.
