Lyla is a book that is based on the real events of the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes. The story follows Lyla who is 14 years old when the earthquake hits her hometown. Throughout the story Lyla has to be brave to help her others as she struggles with things in her life constantly changing around her. I’m not really sure about this book, it had moments where it was exciting, and I was engaged and other parts where not much was happening. The concept of the story was great, but the main character didn’t really seem very believable to me. I would encourage other people to give this book a go as it is gripping story for children 10+.
