In a future North America, where the rulers of Panem maintain control through an annual televised survival competition pitting young people from each of the twelve districts against one another, sixteen-year-old Katniss's skills are put to the test when she volunteers to take her younger sister's place.

I absolutely adored this book with lots of thrilling plot twists and exciting turns to accommodate the author’s incredible writing. The Hunger Games is set in a dystopian future in a make-believe location called Panem. Each year a boy and a girl, under the age of 18, are selected as ‘tributes’ and are forced to compete in a televised fight to the death against tributes from the other 12 Districts. The main character of the book, Katniss Everdeen, is competing for survival and, as the story continues, she experiences a lot of life-changing moments that assist her to overcome the challenges associated with The Games. She is an extremely relatable character – a self-driven and determined person with her wits and skills shown throughout the text. If you love a thriller or drama with a strong female role model, then this book is perfect for you! It is definitely a page turner for those sleepless nights or rainy days.
